Calling all young engineers and movie enthusiasts! Join us for an exciting evening of creativity and fun with a Cardboard Regatta followed by a Movie Night at the Pool! Kids will design and build their own cardboard boats and compete in a thrilling race, then settle in for a cozy movie night by the pool with popcorn and snacks. Who will win the coveted Titanic Award this year?
Here Are The Rules:
Forbidden Materials:
Fiberglass resins and Plastic Epoxies
Metal
Cardboard that has been factory coated
Motorized boats
Plastic cardboard- such as outdoor signs or foam board
Paint OF ANY KIND. NO LATEX OR ACRYLIC
Allowed Supplies:
Corrugated Cardboard
Elmer’s Wood Glue
Liquid Nails
Duct Tape
Other Rules:
We must have 10 teams in order for this event to take place. Register now
Boats must be made entirely of corrugated cardboard and propelled by human power using paddles, oars, etc. (Canoe and Kayak paddles and oars are allowed) Cardboard cannot be sealed with any paint or sealants. Absolutely, NO use of the following items: paint, tar based substances, two-part varnishes, fiberglass resin, epoxy glue, any other two-part substances, or corrugated cardboard that is bond to any material.
Boat inspections and captains meeting are at 5:45- RACE WILL BEIGIN AT 6:00 P.M.
Boats and team members may not intentionally interfere with any other team or boat. (Failure to comply with this will mean an immediate disqualification and will not be allowed to complete the race)
The judges reserve the right to tear apart and/or inspect any boat.
Boats will have to maneuver a one loop course of the pool OR a lane race.
Competitors must remain in the boat to complete the race.
Each entry must have at least 1 person in the boat during race.
All teams must completely dispose of their boats after the completion of the race.
You cannot wrap the entire boat with plastic or duct tape or any similar tape or wrap. Duck tape can only be used at the seams and stress points. However, you are allowed to reinforce all seams and stress points with tape before waterproofing. Contestants are not allowed to use any substance which might be harmful to the environment. Contestants should take care to ensure that the construction of your boat does not include pointed projections and sharp edges that might cause personal injury.
